Remember Sharpeville –
It may be used today by the ruling party as a political ploy but in reality it was a very real atrocity. No human should be killed for expressing their desire for basic freedom. Everyone has the right to protest. We commemorate Human Rights day not to remember past discrimination but to realize that there is still oppression to this day.
The world may be freer in some aspects, but there are still shadows of dictatorship and threats of power that wish to destroy the liberty we now have.
There are Sharpevilles happening across the world on a daily basis. Events where government needlessly kills those who just want to be heard. Commemorating a holiday won’t stop these atrocities.
Never stop fighting for Human Rights. Never stop fighting for Freedom. Never stop fighting for a Free South Africa!
